Father Christmas and Children Around a Tree, With a Poem
Description
The main scene of the card depicts Father Christmas in a white robe and red hat standing to the right of a Christmas tree. Four children, a boy and an older girl holding two younger girls' hands, stand in front of it. The card is bordered in evergreen and pine cones. The poem at the bottom reads: "God Jul / Jeg synger Julekvad, / Jeg er saa glad saa glad! / Min hjertens Jesus hviler / I stald og krybbe trang, / Som sol kin klare smiler / Ha paa sin Modera fang, / Han er Frelaer min." Roughly translated from Danish, this is a poem about singing in the Christmas spirit and being happy because Jesus has come as brother and savior.
Father Christmas is dressed in a long tan coat and wears a blue hat with a string of beads around it. To the left of the card he holds a staff that looks like a decorated lyre; he has a small mallet in his other hand. Not standing higher than his waist, two children - a boy and a girl - tug at him, asking for toys. The boy holds a book and is dressed in blue, while the girl is in red and white. Next to them is a basket of toys with a jester doll propped up against it. "A Merry Christmas" is printed in the bottom right, and there is a pine cone and evergreen decoration stretching across the left side and top of the card.
Santa Claus is wearing a dark red coat with white trim and carrying toys in his hands. Behind him is a town. He is framed in gold and white with evergreen and pine decorations at the bottom; the card's border is pink. "To wish you a merry Christmas" is printed at the bottom.
As if he's sharing a secret, Father Christmas is tapping the side of his nose with one finger. His head is shown above a pine-and-bell decoration; he is wearing a floppy red hat with a blue rim. There are icicles at the top of the card and printed at the bottom is "Christmas Greetings."
Santa Claus, dressed in his red suit, is smoking a long-stemmed pipe with smoke rising from it. Above him is a decoration of evergreen branches and pine cones. "Christmas Wishes" is printed at the bottom.
