One of the photographers is standing in the left foreground, and a man wearing a long with apron may be seen standing in a doorway. “Star Brewery” is visible above an upper floor of one of the buildings. No number has been written on the emulsion side of the negative in the upper right corner of the picture. The number “2” has been written in the upper left corner.

According to the Encyclopedia Dubuque, www.encyclopediadubuque.org, this brewery was founded in 1898 by Joseph A. Rhomberg, and was the oldest brewery in Iowa.
The original glass plate negative was lost. A silver gelatin print created in the 1970s remains.
