Description

The photographer indicates that this view was taken from the Illinois Central tracks. The multistory, brick shot tower is visible in the left of the image. Constructed in 1856, it suffered from a fire in 1911 which burned the interior as well as the lookout tower which had been constructed on its top. The smoke stack of the Standard Lumber Company may be seen in the background. This image was colored by the photographer. The number 1336 is written on a label that has been stuck to the lower left corner of the slide.
