St. Bridget (Pinhook - Bremer County, Iowa)

Description

"Bishop Clement Smyth sent missionaries to the area in the 1860s. They celebrated Mass in homes and in the church at Christian Prairie. Father John Sheils established Saint Bridget in 1868, when Michael McClaskey donated two acres for the site of the church and the present Mount Olivet Cemetery. The church was built by men of the congregation at a cost of $1000."
