The photographer sits atop a hill or a building and is slightly raised above the town of Pont-a-Mousson around the time of the St. Mihiel Front. In the foreground is a small cemetery. Behind the cemetery walls are homes and other various buildings. Next to the cemetery is a group of tall trees that hide buildings behind them. There are more larger buildings behind everything else. Behind the twon is a hill and possibly another small town in the far distance in the middle corner.
