As the Catholic population had increased, Archbishop James J. Keane saw the need for another parish in the city. On July 4, 1923, Archbishop Keane blessed the cornerstone and dedicated the new church on the following December 23. By that time the parish already numbered 250 families. They had been part of the four border parishes. The parish school opened in the fall of 1924 with an enrollment of 425 and staffed by the Sisters of the Visitation, whose convent was just across the Alta Vista Street.”
