The House of the Good Shepherd was a home to rehabilitate and restore delinquent or neglected girls, aged 13-21. The buildings is a 4-5 story, red-brick building. The front door faces Alta Vista Street and there is a sidewalk that leads up to the front door. The front door is up 7 cement stairs and under a roof that has a cross on the top of the pointed pediment and the name "House of the Good Shepherd underneath the pediment as well as decorative cornices. On the left side of the buildings there is a fire escape that is against the wall. On the grounds next to the building is a grotto, trees, chairs, and possibly a garden. It appears to be a porch, but there are walls of the old house visible to the left that show the inside of the house. To his right is Edward Hoffmann who is sitting, facing towards the left, but looking at the photographer. Both men are on what appears to be the main floor or foundation of the house. Edward's hair is parted near the left side of his head and is slicked back. Behind the men is a window and a door that is on a wooden wall. The roof above them extends over the still visible wall with the window and the door. There is overgrown grass in front of the building, as well as on the sides.
