Charles Schrup sits at a roll-top desk in his office at the Dubuque Fire & Marine Insurance Company, rooms 710 to 715 in the B & I Building. Behind him, there are filing cabinets lined against the wall at left. On the back wall is a large pull-down map that is labeled: “Map of the City of Dubuque, Iowa, Compiled and Published by W.H. Knowlton, 1897.” On the map is an illustration of the B & I building. There is a June, 1912 Dubuque Fire and Marine Insurance Company calendar pinned to a window sill next to the map. The calendar is labeled, “Local Department,” and lists Charles J. Schrup as the manager. The number “114” has been written on the emulsion side of the negative and is visible in the upper right corner of the picture. No number is written in the upper left corner.
