Title

St. James (Forest City, Iowa)

Description

"The history of the Forest City and Lake Mills parishes is intertwined and involves the Bristol parish, which never had a church of its own. From about the year 1870 Catholic settlements developed at Bristol, Forest City, and Lake Mills. According to one account, “a fairly large Irish settlement was formed in the northeast corner of Winnebago County and the adjacent area of Worth County, centering about the town of Bristol.” Another Catholic settlement of Irish and Austrians formed farther south in the area of Forest City."
