Title

Immaculate Conception (Lansing, Iowa)

Description

“Immaculate Conception Parish came into existence early in the history of the archdiocese because the town of Lansing in northeast Iowa was an important trading and shipping center on the great waterway of the Mississippi. The Catholics in that area depended upon the occasional visits of Father Michael Kinsella and other missionary priests. Then under direction of Trappist Father Francis Walsh, pastor of Wexford, the first church was built in 1855. They continued to be cared for from Wexford and Waukon, until Father Louis Corneiis came in 1867 as resident pastor.”
