[Levi mansion, Dubuque, Iowa]
Title
[Levi mansion, Dubuque, Iowa]
Creator
Loemker, Herman J., 1868-1937
Description
The image shows a building which was three stories tall. Numerous small, pointed gables are visible on the mansard roof. A circular turret with a cone-shaped roof rises above the front entrance. A label on the image reads "Res. Cor. 13th and Main, Dubuque", however the photo was taken at 12th and Main St. It is unclear if the home was built by Alexander or James Levi. In 1933 the home was purchased by St. Joseph's Academy and renamed St. Margaret's Hall. When the school closed, the building remained empty for many years before being condemned and torn down in 1965. The number 1265 is written on a label that has been stuck to the lower left corner of the slide.
