Title

[Girls and Mom's Dance, Shakespearian Tercentenary celebration, 1916, Dubuque Iowa]

Creator

Loemker, Herman J., 1868-1937

Description

Dressed in identical white dresses, white stockings and black shoes, a large group of girls and older women have formed parallel lines on the Municipal Athletic field. One group at the rear of the formation appears to be waving white scarves while other participants are jumping or stepping in formation. Covered bleachers are partially visible in the right background of the image. Spectators are seated on the bleachers. A large building with a sign reading “Conlin Kearns ICE Co.” may be seen next to the bleachers. Additional free standing signs line the rear of the field and read in part: “…nn & Rose ..umber Co.” “FEDERAL…” “…LUMBER…” and “…Old Fireside.” The number 1351 is written on a label that has been stuck to the lower left corner of the slide.
