[May Pole dancers II, Shakespearian Tercentenary celebration, Dubuque, Iowa]

Three groups of girls, dressed in white dresses, white stockings and dark vests are standing around tall May Poles. Some are holding streamers and some are standing in pairs waiting to walking around the poles. A fourth group is partially visible in the image. Spectators are standing along the edge of the athletic field and boys and men are sitting and standing on the roof of small building near the field. Also visible is another structure with a painted sign that reads “Conlin and Kerns Co ICE coal coke.” Additional large signs line the athletic field and read: “Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. … piece or a car load,” “Federal Deposit & Trust Co.,” “Standard Lumber Yard Co.,” “The Labor Leader,” “Be loyal to Dubuque …Old Fireside,” “Budweiser H. Rhomberg.” “Longler HATS.” The Mississippi River and bluffs on the east side of the River are also vibsible in this image.The number 1353-2 is written on a label that has been stuck to the lower left corner of the slide.
