There is a dirt road on the left side of the photograph that winds down to a railroad. There is a larger building next to the railroad, and a few smaller ones. There is a sign right by the railroad that says, "Railroad Crossing: Look Out For Cars". There are also telegraph poles along the dirt road and the railroad. There are two individuals standing at the end of the dirt road, and next to the railroad. There is a cemetery in the distance at the back left of the photograph. On the bottom right of the photograph says, "Rockdale" as in Rockdale, Iowa, just south of Dubuque.
